There are so many interesting museums, scenic parks, and more to take advantage of. We’ve put together a list of our favorite things to do in Alabama, without breaking the bank!
Cheaha State Park | 19644 Hwy 281 | Delta, AL
Part of the Appalachian mountain chain, Cheaha State Park offers a sense of serenity and beautiful views from the highest point in Alabama. There are plenty of things to do within the park including picnicking, hiking and biking trails, and playgrounds. Entrance fees into the state park are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 4-11 and hours are from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Oak Mountain State Park | 200 Terrace Drive | Pelham, AL
Alabama’s largest state park, Oak Mountain State Park, provides an outdoor experience unlike any other. This is the perfect place for mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts! Not only can you bike and hike but this park offers watersports, horseback riding, boat rentals, fishing, and nature programs. Oak Mountain State Park is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and is $5 for adults and $2 for children 4-11 years of age.
McWane Science Center | 200 19th St N | Birmingham, AL
The McWane Science Center is a great place for families! They offer hands-on exhibits that not only entertain but also educate. Bonus, this science center is affordable with $15 admission for adults and $12 for kids. Feel like checking out their IMAX as well? You can bundle your admission and IMAX ticket without draining your wallet. McWane Science Center is open weekdays, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Sunday, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Alligator Alley | 19950 Highway 71 | Summerdale, AL
For all the animal lovers visiting Alabama, Alligator Alley is sure to be… well up right up your alley! Home to over 200 alligators, Alligator Alley provides guided tours, elevated viewing platforms, and hands-on experiences with its resident alligators. Open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (closed on Wednesday) with daily feedings at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm. Admission to Alligator Alley is $13 for adults and $11 for kids.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens | 2612 Lane Park Road | Birmingham, AL
Experience all the natural beauty that Birmingham Botanical Gardens has to offer. Stroll through over 30 gardens to experience different cultures from around the world and native plants as well. You can also enjoy visiting their art gallery and cafe onsite. Admission into the gardens is free for all! The gardens are open daily from dusk until dawn.
Cathedral Caverns State Park | 637 Cave Road | Woodville, AL
The nature and beauty of Cathedral Caverns will leave you for a loss of words. With over 493 acres to explore, it’s certain you will have an experience unlike any other. Gaze at the stalagmites, watch and listen for native bats, hike one of their many marked trails, or take one of their guided tours. The park center is open daily from 9:00 am and the state park itself is open from sunrise to sunset.
