March Madness Snacks for the Big Game

March Madness Snacks for the Big Game

Get ready sports fan; the biggest event on the college calendar is just around the corner! To fuel the basketball fans at your viewing party, we’ve curated a snack menu to highlight each of the tournament’s four regions—East, West, South, and Midwest. March Madness promises to be full of buzzer beaters and big plays, but these tasty treats definitely won’t bust your bracket.

East: Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Buffalo wings are a staple in the northeast. This hot dip version of a classic will go a lot further—and no one will have to fight over the last drumstick. With just five ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and is great reheated if you’re lucky enough to have any leftovers. To cut down on calories, choose low fat options for the blue cheese and ranch dressing.

West: California-Style Deviled Eggs.

Take this party go-to up a notch with a fresh West Coast interpretation. Add avocado, tomatoes, cilantro and lime juice to give these little devils a pop of brightness and a punch of flavor. Top with crumbled tortilla chips to add a little texture. These California-style deviled eggs are a healthy alternative to heavier dishes, and are vegetarian and gluten-free to please the whole crowd.

South: Biscuit-Wrapped Fried Chicken.

What happens when you combine two southern classic foods? Pure snack magic. This isn’t your typical fried chicken recipe; chicken thighs marinated in buttermilk and hot sauce go in for a quick fry before being rolled in strips of fluffy biscuit dough and baked in the oven. Brush with a mixture of butter and honey and get ready to watch these delicious bites disappear.

Midwest: Beer and Cheese Fondue.

Straight from the heartland of America comes a fun take on fondue. Add your favorite brew—try a smoky stout or rich red ale to add another layer of flavor—to melted cheese along with chopped broccoli and pimentos to create a Fargo-worthy dish. Serve with pretzels, cubed crusty bread, and fresh veggies for dipping.

Bonus bites: Southwestern Nachos.

The Final Four takes place in Phoenix this year, so we thought we’d serve up an extra southwest-inspired snack. Break a big bowl of chili into bite-size portions with these hearty nachos. Load tortilla chips into a baking dish, top with shredded pork or ground beef and load up the toppings. Drizzle with melted cheese and you’ve got an appetizer guaranteed to be a slam dunk.
